How to choose your storage unit

If you’re unfamiliar with self-storage, choosing an appropriate unit for your needs can feel daunting. How big IS ten square feet, exactly? To make this decision process an easier one, here are the questions you need to ask before selecting your unit.

What are you storing?

Knowing what you plan on putting in there is important – it has a bearing on the size and requirements of the unit you are going to require. Your skis don’t need to be kept in a climate-controlled environment, but your art collection might. You can store pretty much whatever you like: create wardrobe space by putting your summer clothes away this winter, hide away your belongings for house viewings or keep Christmas presents away from prying eyes!

Please note we do have a list of items you cannot store, which you can find on our FAQ page.

How much space will you need?

There are a range of storage unit sizes available, so knowing how much room you will need ensures that you are able to fit everything you plan on storing in the space. We can help you determine the size of storage space you will require if you tell us what type of items you are planning to store. Our size estimator is also a good guide to understanding the space our units offer.

Is security a concern?

Whether your items are high value in terms of worth or sentiment, peace of mind comes with knowing your unit is safe and secure. CitySpace prides itself on its state-of-the-art security system and extensive security measures, so you can feel confident that your rare vinyl collection or childhood photos are in safe hands.

When will you need to access the unit?

Our facilities are accessible to our customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with visits outside of our office hours easily arranged with staff at reception. Knowing when you’ll need to access the unit is helpful for advance planning.

Protecting your items

Our units are clean, modern and damp-free, but it’s important to package your items to avoid any damage in transit or during their time in storage. We offer a selection of packing materials  including boxes, bubble wrap, tape and covers which can be purchased in-store or through our online shop.

How are you going to get your items to the unit?

Our Knightsbridge storage facility is located underground, so be aware that not all vehicles will be able to access the facility. Contact us before heading over with your belongings to check whether your vehicle will be able to gain access.

Now that you have chosen a storage unit, it’s time to think about how you can use it. As you know, space in Central London is a novelty, so storage offers a perfect opportunity to free up room in your home at the same time as keeping your possessions just a stone’s throw away!
